Dutchmen Golf

Melrose had the top score at both the Olivia and Atwater matches Friday in WCC golf competition.

John Brang led Melrose at Olivia and Nate Loxtercamp paced the team at Atwater.

Dutchmen Baseball

Melrose downed ACGC 8-3 and 5-2 in a double header Friday.  Dillon Haider had four hits for the Dutchmen in the first game. Winning pitcher Brennen Hoppe had two hits in the second game.

Melrose Baseball

The Melrose Dutchmen created runs, and prevented MACA from scoring in their 5-0 win over MACA Tuesday afternoon at Melrose. The Dutchmen used a double steal to score Jordan Klaphake and later a balk to score Tyler Moscho in the second inning. It added three more in the third on RBI hits by Klaphake and Moscho.  Defense and pitching were a key part of the game as Melrose had only three hits, Will Stone also singled.  Carter Klasen earned the win pitching seven innings and allowing four hits with two walk. Melrose’s defensive highlight was in the second inning when it prevented a double steal by putting out both runners.

Melrose Softball

The Lady Dutchmen defeated Holdingford 9-4 on Monday, April 24, and ACGC 9-5 Tuesday, April 25. Kenzie Meyer was the winning pitcher in both games. Abby Hinnenkamp, Ashley Rademacher, Holly Hellermann and Makiya Luetmer all hit well in the contests.

Amateur Baseball

Stearns County League

Spring Hill had 11 hits, while Austin Schoenberg held Greenwald to two hits in an 11-3 win Sunday.  Austin Schoenberg struck out eight in the game. Shawn Schoenberg had three hits in the game, one a double. Nate Terres, who drove in three runs, also doubled. Adam Van Beck doubled for Greenwald and Doug Imdieke singled. Imdieke’s sixth inning single ended a no-hit bit by  Austin Schoenberg.

Other games saw Meire Grove defeat Roscoe 16-4, New Munich defeat Elrosa 8-3 and Lake Henry  top Richmond 11-4.

Aggressive base running by Whitney Austing enable her to beat a throw to third, and eventually score in the wins over Montevideo. She scored the as part of the team’s game-winning rallies in both games. run in the first game.

Dutchmen Baseball

Melrose held off scoring threats by Browerville and posted a 1-0 win Thursday.  Brady Birch drove in Zac Van Beck with the winning run in the eighth inning.  More appears in the April 12 issue of the Beacon.

Lady Dutchmen Softball

The Lady Dutchmen softball team posted a 10-7 win over Benson to move to 2-0 on the year.

Lady Dutchmen Softball

Kenzie Meyer’s four hit day at the plate, and her solid pitching effort were key factors in the Lady Dutchmen’s softball 8-3 win Tuesday afternoon.  Meyer gave up three first inning runs, but threw shutout ball the rest of the game.  Her teammates came through a run in every inning except one.  Defensively Melrose Area had some great plays to snuff out Foley rallies. Francisco Cervantes was all-alone when he scored the first points of the Section 6AA championship game.

Melrose Dutchmen Basketball

The Melrose Dutchmen unbeaten string and their season ended in a 74-67 loss to St. Cloud Cathedral Friday night in the 6AA Championship. Melrose was led by Dillon Haider who scored 33 points in his last game for Melrose. Brady Birch, also a senior, scored 11 points.  Melrose rallied from an eight point deficit early in the second half and cut the lead to one point, but never regained the lead. Cathedral hit  four free throws in the final minute to  seal the win.
