Melrose Gymnastics

Melrose earned the following medals at the state gym meet. Mady Brinkman: first bars, third beam, sixth all-around. Kayla Austing: bars third, fourth beam, fifth floor and all-around Camryn Brinkman: fourth vault. Greta Klaphake: fourth vault.

MSC Swimming

Four individuals and two relays will represent the MSC Fusion at the state swim meet next weekend.  Competing for MSC will be: Kenny Warzecha 50FS, 100FLY; Isaac Schreiner, 100FS, 100BK; Spencer Van Beck, 500FS; Dylan Fleischhacker, 100BT; the 200MR team of Schreiner, Fleischhacker, Warzecha and Van Beck; and the 400FSR team of Warzecha, Nathan Douvier, Van Beck and Schreiner.

Melrose gymnastics at state

Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics

The Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team finished second at the state meet Friday.

The team finished first on the vault and beam and second the bars. Melrose scored a 149..425, the best score every by a Melrose team at state, and set the state beam record.

Individual competition is tomorrow.

SCM Wrestling

Jordan Winter is poised to return to state. He is still in the finals of the Section 8AA tournament at Fergus Falls. Also reaching finals is Antonio Ortiz. Keeping their hopes alive in the wrestle backs are Luke Glasener, Lazaro Garcia, Carter Braun, Sam Sjorgren and Roberto Raya.

Makiya Luetmer (34) led teammates Cassi Klaphake (11), Maci Blommel (21) and Mia Meyer (32) on a fastbreak as Melrose Area rallied in the second half.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

The Lady Dutchmen got a taste of their playoff game when they fell 56-53 to Holdingford Thursday night. Melrose faces Holdingford in the first round of playoff next Thursday at Holdingford. Makiya Luetmer finished with 28 points in the game.

Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose upped its record to 24-0 with a 69-52 win at Benson. Dillon Haider had 17  points and Brady Birch scored 11 points.

Whitney Austing wasted no time going to the basket when MACA’s Ashley Solvie gave her an opening late in the game.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

The Lady Dutchmen rallied from a 10-point deficit but fell 51-47 Thursday to MACA. Cassie Klaphake led Melrose with 11 points while Maci Blommel and Makiya Luetmer contributed nine each. Ashley Rademacher had eight points.

 

Prairie Centre Hockey has home playoff game Saturday

The Prairie Centre North Stars (9-15-1) earned the No. 8 seed in Section 6A hockey today.

Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose needed a second half rally to top MACA 56-45 Tuesday. Dillion Haider led Melrose with 22 points. Brady Birch had 12. The team exchanged first half leads, but Melrose did not lead in the second half until almost half way through the second half.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

The Lady Dutchmen found it tough to win on the road. Despite a 16 point effort by Cassie Klaphake, Melrose Area fell 60-34 to Albany on Tuesday. The Lady Dutchmen also fell 81-34 to Osakis on Monday.

North Star Hockey

Three goals in the second period and two in the third gave Prairie Centre a 5-2 win Monday over Redwood Valley at Sauk Centre. Hunter Fletcher scored twice in the game.

Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics

The Lady Dutchmen gymnasts set a team record of 150.835 and Kayla Austing set school record and tied a West Central Conference record with a 9.9 on vault as Melrose won the WCC meet Saturday. Melrose dominated every routine in the meet. Austing, who won the all-around, also took first on the bars and floor and second on the beam. She, as well as Mady Brinkman, Camryn Brinkman and Greta Klaphake, were named to the all-conference team.

Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose went on strong run late in the first half to take a 27-22 lead a half Friday night it Sauk Centre. It got hot again early in the second half, held and 18-point lead for a while and won 68-53 over Sauk Centre. Melrose is now 21-0 overall and rated third in the state.

SCM Wrestling

SCM downed Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 36-34, but fell to Bemidji 51-15 and to Forest Lake 54-15 Friday night in Bemidji.  Sam Sjogren had two pins in the quadrangular. Jordan Winter finished 3-0 on the night. Nate Loxtercamp, Antonio Ortiz and Luke Glasener also had pins.

A pin by Roberto Raya at :55 seconds of the 195 pound match, and a Technical Fall win by Antonio Ortiz in the 106 match highlight SCM’s 37-26 loss to Paynesville Thursday in Melrose.  SCM won seven of the 14 matches wrestled, but Paynesville recorded five pins.
